World's First Gold-Plated Hotel in Vietnam | Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake hotel

The World's First Gold-Plated hotel which features golden cutlery, cups, toilet seat and an infinity pool has given the word 'extravagant' a new meaning in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The five-star Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, cost £160 million to build and offers guests the chance to have a wash in a golden bath, relax in a golden infinity pool and marvel at the gold-plated lobby. Even the exterior of the building has been covered in around a ton of gold. At a price of $250 per night the hotel owners are hoping to attract people of all backgrounds. Huu Duong is chairman of the Hoa Binh group, which owns the hotel, and he said that the hotel wants 'ordinary people to the super rich… to check-in'.

He also said: 'At the moment, there is no other hotel like this in the world,' The price of a room has been kept relatively low because all the hotel's gold was sourced locally which helped to keep construction costs down. Our group has a factory that can do gold-plated stuff, so the cost for our equipment and furniture here is quite cheap,' Duong said. It's not just the furnishings that are gold-plated, every meal served in the hotel will be mixed with a mystery 'gold substance'.

Despite the coronavirus lockdown limiting the tourism trade in Vietnam, the Duong was pleased to be able to open the hotel this year and believes the establishment will make money next year. Though few in number, the guests that have stayed in the hotel have marvelled at the hotel's unique selling point. When I arrived here... I felt like a king, you know, the Pharaoh... the king of Egypt,' joked Phillip Park, a South Korean guest.

'I really enjoyed the luxury atmosphere,' added Vietnamese guest Luong Van Thuan. 'It has changed my mind about what luxury can be. Other luxury hotels usually use marble as tiles, but here everything is gold-plated down to the washing basin.' Not content with a single gold hotel, Duong, a Vietnam war veteran, is planning gold-plated projects in Ho Chi Minh City and a resort in central Vietnam.

Vietnam has been relatively successful in containing the coronavirus outbreak with only 350 or so cases and no reported deaths.
